Autonomous Intelligent Systems (AIS) Laboratory has been established since 2005 at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech). The main research areas are intelligent robots/vehicles, autonomous navigation, 3D acquisition using structured light, and machine vision. In particular, we are focusing on the intelligent systems using sensor fusion including camera, laser ranger finder, inertial measurement units, and GPS.

For autonomous navigation, we are dealing with indoor and outdoor systems. Mainly, we are using robot with sensors including laser range finder, camera, GPS, IMU for experiments. In particular, we are doing research on the topic of mapping, obstacle detection and avoidance, and SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping). We focus on structured light system for the acquisition of 3D information. We are researching for the improvement of the quality of 3D information and reducing the computation time for the real-time operation. Object manipulation by a robot arm with multiple degrees of freedom using 3D information is also research topic. In industrial assembly line, robot with 3D sensor systems would play a key role in future. Also, traditional machine vision algorithms using 2D information is being researched.
